Posted by: News on Wednesday, December 21, 2005 - 11:01 AM South Florida and state officials have the right idea in studying how to combine mixed-used development with mass transit along the Florida East Coast Railway from Miami to Martin County. The estimated $800 million that they spoke of several years ago for acquiring the freight-heavy FEC right of way, however, may now exceed $1 billion. So the priority must be the money needed to get there.

Monday's kickoff in West Palm Beach was the third such session in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties. Interested parties ranged from developers and contractors to members of the National Association of Railroad Passengers to elected officials from Boca Raton to North Palm Beach. Among their concerns were the east-west bus and rail linkages that will be as vital as any going north-south, safety versus no-horn zones, navigation concerns around the Loxahatchee River and environmental issues throughout the proposed line.

Study predicts twice as many people in Fort Lauderdale 20 years from now

Fort Lauderdale -- There is no more land in this city. No more large swaths of space can be redeveloped.

But the people keep coming.

In 20 years, Fort Lauderdale's population will almost double in size, with another 130,000 people using its streets, playing in its parks and drinking its water, according to a housing study presented to commissioners Tuesday.

Pulsar Advanced Technologies has announced will next week launch its lead product, the Vulcanus MK4, a water heater USING microwave technology to heat water on demand. This technology with super-heating capabilities will drastically cut energy costs and totally eliminate the need to store hot water. The Vulcanus MK4 is making its world premier at Construct Canada in Toronto between Nov. 30 and Dec. 2.
