local scene - christmas on las olas

On Tuesday, December 20th, enjoy a specially created tour for each audience segment. The kid’s tour begins with a passport at the Publix booth on Las Olas Boulevard and SE 6th Avenue, followed by visits to Santa at the Riverside Hotel, Flora Ottimer’s Story Hour, listening to carolers at Kilwin’s, visiting the Fort Lauderdale’s Children’s Theater area to do a craft project, Moda Capelli Designs for hot cocoa, and Stork’s to see a gingerbread house. All children completing the kids tour with stamped passports will receive a gift courtesy of Publix.

On Tuesday, December 27th, join in the celebration as children of all ages thrill to the second night of the age-old eight-night Festival of Lights ... Chanukah. Ron Dagan, premier Israeli entertainer, will host the event. The lighting of a "giant" menorah, an interactive musical game, singers and Israeli dancers will be in the spotlight. Crafts and delicious ethnic food, with the favorite holiday treat, latkes, will also be sold.

Fort Lauderdale approves 42-story condo near Stranahan House

Posted December 7 2005
Fort Lauderdale · After a bitter six-year fight, city commissioners gave a final nod Tuesday to a controversial 42-story residential tower next to the historic Stranahan House on the Hyde Park Market site.

At 455 feet, the structure will be the tallest in the city. River House condo a few blocks to the west is shorter by 3 feet. The county's tallest tower, at 505 feet and 52 stories, is the still-unfinished Beach Club Tower 2 in Hallandale Beach.
